Alchemy Balm
Ok my #eczemacrew this one's for you!
I've been asked by so many of my lovely customers if I could develop a balm including Emu Oil for those with eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and need a bit of extra nourishment. After some of my own research and keeping with my ethos of #animalbased skincare our Alchemy Balm was blended into fruition.
Emu Oil is a traditional medicine that has long been used by the Australian Aborigines to treat skin ailments and to reduce inflammation. It is a by-product of Emu farming for meat and leather and is collected from a fat pad underneath the animals skin which is thought to protect the large, flightless birds from the harsh Australian conditions.
Emu oil is composed of 98-99% fatty acids and the other 1-2% contain antioxidants, vitamins and other organic compounds. When compared with human sebum, the fatty acid composition of emu oil is found to be structurally similar.
Emu oil is found to contain;
Vitamin E an antioxidant and healing agent;
Vitamin A a known skin repairer;
Terpenes an antiseptic;
Sapogens a skin softener;
Linolenic Acid and
Oleic Acid, an essential fatty acid that our body does not produce and is known to have anti inflammatory effects in dermal tissue.
